This certificate also requires a student thesis. We provide thesis guidelines. The thesis should be at least 1200 words in length (see below).

Essay and Thesis Requirements

The difference between an essay and a thesis is that an essay contains a title (plus a theme or premise) followed by a student's paper that describes or expounds on the title/theme. A thesis, which is generally required for all graduates, needs to conform to more structured guidelines regarding the title, theme, subtitles, formatting, and conclusion.

We send handouts to students that explain these guidelines. We can provide examples, if desired. The essay or thesis can be handwritten or typed and can be longer than the required length, although no longer than 3,000 words. Note that the paper's subject needs to center on philosophy, metaphysics, or a related aspect of spirituality or enlightenment.
